Pulpit Announcement:

During this holiday season, when we remember our family and friends with gifts, we are reminded to be generous in remembering our archdiocesan “Sister” parish - Holy Family - in the Dominican Republic.   Our relationship with La Sagrada Familia began in 1981 when priests from this archdiocese began ministering there.   Over the years while many parishioners, including doctors and dentists, have visited the parish, the people of Holy Family have been continuously accompanied by the generous support of people like us; over the years the lives of the people in Holy Family parish are improving, materially as well as spiritually.

Next month we will participate in an archdiocesan-wide collection, a sign of our care and concern for our sisters and brothers in the Dominican Republic.   Learn more about them in today’s bulletin.

Bulletin Text (full version):

In 1981, our archdiocese began a relationship with a courageous community of people in the Dominican Republic who were eager to become a parish.  Two priests from our archdiocese joined them in their effort to grow into what is now La Sagrada Familia/Holy Family parish. Today the parishioners number close to 30,000 living in 22 villages in an area about the size of Washington D.C.   Gradually a parish church was built as were several small chapels, a Health Center and Nutrition Centers for malnourished children. Priests from our diocese continue to minister among the people, along with many leaders they have formed to serve in both social development and faith formation.

The growth of the sister parish relationship parish is not limited to the presence of diocesan priests alone. It is reflected in the bonds of faith and friendship that continue to deepen between the people of La Sagrada Familia and parishioners and students in our archdiocese. The continued growth of our sister parish relationship depends to a great extent upon our awareness of each other and to our generous response to the needs we share with one another.  Thank you for your support of the people of La Sagrada Familia through this Special Collection. They remember you with prayer and gratitude.

Sister Frances Cunningham, OSF

Bulletin Text (short version):

In 1981, our archdiocese began a relationship with a courageous community of people who were eager to become a parish. Two priests from our diocese responded to their invitation and today there is a population of 30,000 people in La Sagrada Familia parish living in a small area of the Dominican Republic. The growth of the parish can be measured in terms of buildings and programs and projects established to meet the changing needs of the people. However, more importantly, the growth can be measured by the bonds of faith and friendship that have continued to deepen between the people of La Sagrada Familia and parishioners and students in our archdiocese. Thank you for your support and attentiveness to their needs in this Special Collection.  They send their prayers and gratitude to you.

Sister Frances Cunningham, OSF
