Join us! May 4, 2019

Join us in a FREE fun-filled family day of music, food and games!

175 years is a lot to celebrate, and we have a lot to offer in the celebration! A full day of free activities await you and your family on Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. We hope to see you there!

Why May 4? May 4, 2019 commemorates 175 years to the approximate day the first Bishop of Milwaukee, Bishop John Martin Henni, arrived in Milwaukee in 1844.

Give me the quick lowdown.

What is all happening on May 4? The celebration will start in Pere Marquette Park, where Archbishop Listecki will kick off the ceremonies. We will then process with over 40 parishes within the archdiocese to the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist where Mass will begin at 11 a.m. -- and all are welcome! At noon, we will continue our celebration in Cathedral Square, as we celebrate big festival-style. So many things to choose from! Take a look at itinerary of free activities that day below, start planning – and bring your friends and family!

10 a.m. @ Pere Marquette Park / Archbishop Jerome Listecki arrives by boat on the Milwaukee River, as Bishop Henni (the Archdiocese of Milwaukee’s first bishop) did 175 years ago on this same day, to kick off the 175 Alive event.

10 a.m. - 10:15 a.m.@ Pere Marquette Park /  Dr. Michael R. Lovell will reflect on the history of Bishop Henni and Marquette University

Archbishop Listecki will arrive at Pere Marquette Park by … boat?! Re-enacting how Bishop Henni came to Milwaukee 175 years ago down the very same Milwaukee River? Did we just say that was really happening? I guess you will just have to come to find out.

10:30 a.m. / Sing to the Square

Process with us and over 40 parishes as we travel from Pere Marquette Park to the Cathedral for Mass, with artistic, one-of-a-kind parish banners created just for this event in hand -- and songs to sing!
