Under the supervision of the Director of Formation for children, responsible for designing and executing programs and activities that facilitate Catholic formation for children from K3 to 5th grade in the general area of the parishes. Design a high-quality, focused curriculum for and facilitate regular religious education programs for K3-5th grade that includes catechetical instruction and formation for children who do not attend the parish day school. Responsible for sacramental preparation and celebration of sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist for both public school children and children in the two parish schools. Assist children and families seeking baptismal sacramental preparation at later ages (those who are not infants) and related special situations. Responsible for developing and executing formation programs for families, equipping parents as the primary formators of the faith. The central formation method is Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS).
Responsibilities:
- Promotion of the CGS Vision:
- Along with the Director, communicate and promote CGS vision throughout the parish communities through presentations, conversations, and communication through parish newsletters, bulletins, announcements, events, etc.
- Weekly meeting with the Director for prayer and communication regarding CGS and program updates.
- Attend staff meetings when the Director is unable to attend.
- Presence in Parish Atria:
- Lead multiple CGS classes ranging from Levels 1 to 2 (Level 3 preferred).
- Maintain records for children in these CGS classes.
- Communicate with parents as appropriate.
- Maintain atria in a state of readiness for other catechists.
- Catechist & Assistant Recruitment and Formation:
- Be present and support catechist/assistant training provided throughout the year.
- Parent Education & Volunteer Opportunities:
- Be present at parent meetings.
- Prepare meeting materials and set up for meetings as needed.
- Create and maintain parent volunteer sign-up and roster throughout the year.
- CGS Administration & Communications
- Monthly parent newsletter: work with Director to provide information for monthly newsletter.
- Format and send newsletter.
- Atria Development and Materials:
- Coordinate with catechist team to keep atrium supply closet organized and stocked.
- Maintain paper supply needs for each atria level.
- Sacramental Preparation:
- Parent Interest Meetings: assist with set up and coordination.
- Sacrament meditation sessions: assist in planning and implementation.
- Sacramental retreat: assist in planning and implementation.
- First Communion Celebrations: be present at liturgical celebrations.
- Collaboration with pastoral staffs in other activities, support parish events through advertising and attendance when appropriate.
- All other duties as requested.
