Associate Director of Liturgy & Music

Duties and Responsibilities:

Liturgical Planning and Coordination:

  • Supports in planning and coordinating all liturgical celebrations, including Sunday Masses, holy days, sacraments, and special liturgies.
  • Supports with preparing and organizing liturgical materials, such as worship aids, readings, and music selections.
  • Supports with the preparation of liturgical books and binders for weekend and holy day liturgies, weddings, funerals, penance services and other liturgies as assigned.
  • Supports with the preparation of Church for liturgies assigned.

Music Ministry:

  • Supports the Director of Liturgy and Music in developing and leading music programs that enhance the worship experience.
  • Recruit, train, and direct choirs, cantors, and instrumentalists.
  • Serve as one of the Corpus Christi Parish’s liturgical musicians for weekend and holy day liturgies, weddings, funerals, penance services and other liturgies as assigned.
  • Assists and prepares musicians, instrumentalists, choirs for Corpus Christi liturgies.

Volunteer Coordination:

  • Assist in recruiting, training, and mentoring volunteers involved in liturgical ministries.
  • Coordinate schedules and responsibilities for liturgical volunteers, ensuring smooth operations.

Community Engagement:

  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all parishioners.

Administrative Tasks:

  • Maintain records related to liturgical celebrations and music programs.
  • Ensure the proper maintenance and care of musical instruments and liturgical supplies.
  • Participate in regular meetings with Prayer & Worship to review and plan upcoming events.
  • Provide and ensure content for media apps to include website and phone media.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for the Job:

Knowledge:

  • Deep understanding of Catholic liturgical practices, traditions, and the liturgical calendar.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of sacred music, including traditional hymns, and contemporary sacred music.
  • Familiarity with Church documents related to liturgy and music, such as the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM) and Sacrosanctum Concilium.
  • Awareness of the role of music in enhancing the liturgical experience and fostering full and active participation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in liturgical music or its equivalent
  • Working knowledge of MS Office products

    Skills:
  • Proficiency in playing at least one musical instrument, preferably piano or organ.
  • Strong vocal skills, with the ability to lead and train choirs and cantors.
  • Organizational and planning skills to coordinate liturgical celebrations and music programs.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to collaborate with clergy, staff, and parishioners.

    Abilities:
  • Capacity to recruit, train, and mentor volunteer musicians and choir members.
  • Flexibility to adapt to the liturgical and pastoral needs of the parish community.
  • Strong leadership abilities to inspire and guide the liturgical music ministry.
  • Commitment to fostering a prayerful and reverent atmosphere through music.

ADA Physical Requirements:

  • Mobility: Ability to move freely around the church and other locations, including walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods
  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to use hands and arms for playing musical instruments, conducting choirs, and handling liturgical materials
  • Strength: Ability to lift and carry items up to 20 lbs, such as musical equipment
  • Posture: Ability to sit and rise unassisted from an organ console or piano bench, and play pedals competently with feet
  • Communication: Ability to speak and hear clearly to lead rehearsals, and communicate with clergy.
