Coordinator of Children’s Ministry

  • Faith Formation: Passionately share the Gospel with children and their families through Children’s Formation (pre-K through 8th grade), Children’s Liturgy of the Word, Vacation Bible School, and other formation opportunities for children and parents. Prepare catechetical leaders to use curriculum effectively and provide parents with tools to embrace their role as primary catechists for their children.
  • Relational Ministry and Discipleship: Work to create a culture of accompaniment that fosters discipleship through children’s formation to help children and parents understand and embrace their Catholic faith. Provide opportunities for prayer, reflection, and sacramental preparation.
  • Sacramental Preparation: In collaboration with catechists and Waukesha Catholic School teachers, prepare children to receive their First Sacraments. Assist parents in their role during the year of First Sacraments.
  • Pastoral Care: Offer a supportive presence to children and parents in times of personal growth, challenge, and difficulty. Provide a safe environment for open dialogue and emotional support, nurturing the spiritual, emotional, and psychological well-being of all.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with parents, catechists, parish staff, and clergy to ensure seamless coordination of children’s activities, integration into parish life, and alignment with the overall mission of the church. Work closely with Event Coordinator and Communications Manager to effectively administer Children’s Ministry events/programs. Work with the Director of Liturgy and clergy to plan liturgical services for children.
  • Outreach and Evangelization: Develop strategies to attract and engage new children and family members while maintaining connections with current members. Foster a sense of evangelization and mission within the children/family community. Provide opportunities for parents and catechists to grow in their faith.
  • Leadership Development: Recruit, train, and minister to catechists, aides, and office volunteers.
  • Administration: Manage resources and materials necessary for the Children’s Formation program. Maintain accurate records, attendance lists, and communication channels to keep participants informed. Develop and implement event calendars.
  • Professional Growth: Stay updated on current trends in religious education and pastoral care. Attend workshops, conferences, and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge as necessary. Maintain awareness of, and implement, current policies and guidelines of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

Qualifications

K: Knowledge

  1. Working knowledge of MS Office products.
  2. Fully initiated and active Roman Catholic able to participate in the sacramental life of the Church.
  3. Bachelor’s degree in Theology/Religious Education or an educational field, or equivalent experience.
  4. Knowledge of, and participation in, parochial life.

S: Skills

  1. Professional working attitude and collaborative approach.
  2. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Bilingual communication skills are a plus but not required.
  4. Strong organizational skills.
  5. Strong presentation skills.
  6. Proficiency in using technology for communication and outreach.

 A: Abilities

  1. Ability to multitask and prioritize.
  2. Ability to make decisions, be attentive to details, and troubleshoot with limited guidance.
  3. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  4. Ability to work collaboratively with the Faith Formation team, parish staff, volunteers, and parishioners.
  5. Willingness to employ various approaches to ministry and flexibility to adapt to changing needs within our community.
  6. Appreciation of and ability to relate to differing cultures.
  7. Valid driver’s license for the state of Wisconsin and willingness to travel between work sites.
  8. Current Safe Environment Certification or ability to become Safe Environment Certified.

Full time, salaried position. There is an option for part-time if desired. We are seeking an English speaker for this role. However, we also welcome bilingual candidates who are fluent in both English and Spanish, as this would be a valuable asset to our team. The position has an office at the St Mary campus.
