Director of Children's Faith Formation

The person in this position provides leadership, administration, coordination, and education of the faith formation of children & youth. Utilizing off-the-shelf faith-building programs, or developing same, the Director of Children’s Faith Formation works with the Pastor, the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry, and others within the parish to assist parents and children in building a solid foundation rooted in Jesus Christ and the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and provides initial and ongoing formation of ministries in the area of catechesis and evangelization. 

  • Recruits (new and existing), screens, trains, and instructs catechists and volunteers. 

  • Develops catechists and volunteer teams, and conducts spiritual formation/training workshops and retreats. Develops a written catechist and volunteer schedule as needed. Organizes prayer sessions or similar faith-building gatherings.

  • Develops and manages an annual budget; authorizes expenditures within the approved budget; 

  • Attends staff and other parish or Archdiocesan meetings to ensure consistency of effort, effective coordination, and clarity of responsibility. May attend other meetings as directed by the Pastor. 

  • Acts as a resource to Pastoral and Finance Councils in a non-member role. Provides guidance to school-based faith building initiatives and programming.

  • Manages sacramental preparation efforts, and may assist the Pastor in sacramental liturgies. 

  • Provides opportunities for parent engagement and dialog to strengthen their role as the primary formators/teachers in their child's life and to the community at large. 

  • Provides opportunities for youth and/or young faith formation education, adult gatherings, prayer experiences, social events, retreats and community engagement. 

  • Provides programs and faith building activities for parishioners in all stages of family life.

  • Fosters parishioner participation in faith formation, evangelization, and stewardship. 

  • Ensures copyright and licensing requirement permissions. 

  • Orders and maintains inventory faith formation materials and supplies. 

  • Instigates, or responds to requests for information regarding parish membership.

  • Attends respective Archdiocesan and Deanery workshops/programs, as needed. 

  • Other duties as assigned by the Pastor. 

Qualifications

  • Practicing Roman Catholic with a deep love for Jesus Christ and desire to evangelize the world.

  • Able to participate in the sacramental life of the Church.

  • Engages in ongoing formation through prayer, personal study, and an annual retreat.

  • Eligible for Advanced Religious Education Certification with the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. 

  • Working knowledge in MS Office and Google Workspace platforms.

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Bilingual Spanish/English is desirable, but not required.

  • Understanding and implementation of SafeGuarding policy and practices.
