FULL JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Position Title:            Director of Communication         

Status:                       Exempt/Full Time/ Salaried

Supervisor’s Title:    Pastor / Parish Administrator      

Job Summary:

The Director of Communications is focused on helping St. Mary Parish and School grow by engaging parishioners, and non-parishioners within the geographic parish boundaries of St Mary Hales Corners.  The ideal candidate is a professional who can help develop our brand and champion the mission of the Parish while enhancing our reach through multiple coordinated communication channels. 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

K: Knowledge

  1. Practicing Catholic required

  2. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required Marketing, Graphic Design or Communications

  3. Three years of experience in Marketing, Advertising and Brand Development including relevant Social Media experience.

  4. Supervisory experience preferred

  5. Working knowledge in MS Office and Google products required

S: Skills

  1. Able to lead prayer in small and large group settings

  2. Comfortable discussing faith 

  3. Professional working attitude and collaborative approach

  4. Strong verbal and written communications skills

  5. Strong organizational skills

  6. Strong planning and organizational skills

  7. Strong logistical skills and the ability to manage competing priorities

  8. Strong technology, social media and website management skills

  1. Ability to multitask and prioritize

  2. Ability to make decisions, attentive to details, and troubleshoot

  3. Ability to maintain confidentiality

  4. Ability to maintain a professional office atmosphere

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop a marketing plan for growth and vision of the Communications Ministry with staff and volunteers to help St. Mary Catholic Faith Community grow both in the school and parish community. 

 

Marketing Strategy:

  • Develops and ensures consistency in brand identity

  • Develops and maintains annual communications calendar

  • Standardizes messages achieving synergies across all communications media and methods.

  • Collaborates in the planning and development of marketing materials for: 

    • Pastoral Council

    • Finance Council

    • School Advisory Commission

    • Stewardship Commission 

    • Discipleship Commission

    • Spiritual Life and Worship Commission

  • Assists other ministries in developing marketing materials.

  • Ensures effective use of external and external methods of communication and coordinates postings across media (TV, print, mail, website Focknotes etc).

   Social Media 

  • Develop and implement a social media strategy.  

  • Oversee all parish and school social media accounts.  

  • Ensure mission focused information is posted timely and daily and consistently

  • Develops and implements metrics to gauge the success of postings 

 

Website

  • Oversee the parish and school websites

  • Promotes website as an effective communication tool

  • Creates and updates content

  • Directly seek and publish materials from Pastor, Directors and Principal

Parishioner Engagement Responsibilities: 

  • Champion the mission of the parish to grow disciples internally and externally

  • Enhances effectiveness through volunteer engagement in the Communication Ministry. Recruits, screens, trains, and develops communication ministry.

  • Develops, monitors and maintains a marketing production process

  • Endures communication teams stay on brand

  • Develops, manages and maintains a library of video and photos

  • Coordinates event publicizing opportunities, mobilizing volunteers ensuring we capture relevant social media info (photos / video) for posting after events

  • Engages broader community beyond parish to grow parishioner base

Planning Responsibilities:

  • Develop brand consistent calendar of communications for all Parish teams (Liturgy, Discipleship, School, and Administration)

  • Assist Directors and Principal to amplify the messages of our missions while coordinating frequency and timing across our audiences. 

Administrative Activities:

  • Measures effectiveness of all marketing efforts to strategic plan goals

  • Proposes, manages and complies with annual communications budget

  • Manages contracts for website and printing

  • Ensures all communications reflect Catholic Identity

  • Keeps Parish Staff informed

 

Other Responsibilities:

Collaborates and acts as a resource for staff and parish meetings

Fosters positive public relations in and outside the parish/school

Attends respective Archdiocesan and Deanery workshops/programs, as directed

Other duties as assigned

 ADA Physical Requirements:

·         The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear

·         The employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods; use hands; reach with hands and arms

·         Close vision required for paperwork and computer

·         Able to utilize a computer keyboard, monitor, and telephone

·         This role functions in an office environment and uses standard office equipment

·         Ability to lift 20-30 pounds

 Nature of Supervision Received:

This position requires minimal direct supervision and the Director must be capable of exercising judgment while working largely independently, while still keeping Pastor/Parish Administrator informed of the key decisions and details impacting the Parish.

Judgment Exercised/Decisions Made:

Employee is expected to take initiative and make decisions based on the mission and vision of the parish and/or school and direction from the supervisor and/or Pastor.   

Employee Supervised:

The Director supervises the Bulletin Editor and School Communication Coordinator
