St. Anthony the Hermit Parish in Menomonee Falls, WI, is seeking an experienced Director of Music. Duties include serving as the main organist for weekly Masses and liturgical events, as well as directing and coordinating of the adult choir, children's choir, and cantors. In addition, the Director of Music will play for funerals and weddings at the parish (additional stipend to be received).
Responsibilities:
- Select music in alignment with the parish's vision for sacred music and play the organ for all parish weekend Masses, as well as Holy Days of Obligation, funerals, weddings, and other liturgical events as assigned.
- Prepare Orders of Worship for all liturgies at the parish.
- Sing for or find cantors for all Masses.
- Lead weekly choir rehearsals and musical formation for adult and children`s choirs; recruit and meet with potential new choir members. Hold sectional rehearsals as necessary.
- Coordinate the choir schedules.
- Oversee, train, and develop parish cantors and coordinate the cantor schedule.
- Hire and rehearse with other instrumentalists who will assist for Mass (i.e. Holy Days, Confirmation, etc.). Submit check requests.
- Attend monthly Liturgy meeting with priests, deacons, and Liturgy and Music Coordinator, held at St. Mary, Mother of God Parish.
- Meet with wedding couples and families planning funerals to guide and assist them in selecting appropriate music for Mass.
- Maintain the choral library and plan choral repertoire appropriate to the Liturgical season.
- Maintain the instruments (organ and two pianos).
- Assemble and maintain the department budget.
- Guide the congregation to sing well and help them to grow in their understanding of the role of sacred music within the liturgy.
- Ensure qualified substitutes are enlisted when absent, Mass/service, funerals, weddings, etc.
- Ensure appropriate copyright/licensing compliance.
- Collaborate with other staff.
- Candidate should be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should possess a love of sacred music and be proficient in organ, choral conducting, vocal training, chant, hymnody, and polyphony, as well as possess a familiarity with Latin. The Director of Music will report directly to the pastor.
