Teacher Job Description

Position Overview: A Saint Francis Borgia School Teacher  should foster a positive and faith-filled learning environment, helping students develop strong literacy and mathematical skills. This role involves creating lesson plans, assessing student progress, and collaborating with colleagues and parents to support student achievement.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Instruction:

    • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with the grade-level standards.

    • Adapt instruction to meet the varying learning styles and abilities of students.

    • Use a variety of teaching methods, including hands-on activities, interactive lessons, and technology integration.

    • Promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and mathematical reasoning among students.

    • Receive and implement feedback given by colleagues and administration.

  2. Assessment and Feedback:

    • Create and administer quizzes, tests, and assignments to evaluate student understanding.

    • Provide timely and constructive feedback on student performance.

    • Maintain detailed records of student progress and grades.

    • Use assessment data to inform instruction and make adjustments to teaching strategies.

    • Provide placement testing for new students and returning students. 

  3. Classroom Management:

    • Maintain a positive, respectful classroom environment conducive to learning.

    • Manage student behavior and foster a culture of responsibility, respect, and cooperation.

    • Establish clear classroom rules and expectations.

    • Address any discipline issues promptly and appropriately.

  4. Collaboration and Communication:

    • Collaborate with other teachers, administrators,priests, and staff to support interdisciplinary learning and school-wide initiatives.

    • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, achievements, and areas of concern.

    • Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events.

  5. Professional Development:

    • Stay up-to-date with professional development opportunities, teaching strategies, and technology.

    • Attend workshops, seminars, or conferences to improve teaching skills and knowledge.

    • Reflect on personal teaching practices and seek feedback to continuously improve.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education

  • Teaching certification

  • Safe Environment Certified

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

  • Experience in teaching or tutoring preferred

  • Have appropriate certification from the State of Wisconsin or eligibility for such certification.

  • Satisfactorily complete required background criminal records check.

  • Fulfill requirements for religious instruction/certification as established by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

  • Maintain constant updating of academic and religious requirements as required by the Wisconsin DPI, the Archdiocese, and St. Francis Borgia School.  Such updates are to be discussed with and approved by the Principal.

Desirable Skills:

  • Familiarity with modern educational technology and digital resources.

  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs.

  • Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for teaching.

Work Environment:

  • Full-time, in-person position

  • May involve extracurricular duties 

  • Attend professional development

  • Perform duties and responsibilities timely

  • Actively participate in the school liturgies

  • Abide by the guidelines of the Faculty Handbook, Archdiocesan policies, and locally determined policies (School Committee and Parish Council). 

  • Attend functions for the betterment of the school community.

  • Assure the inclusion and integration of explicit phonics instruction.

  • Be knowledgeable of the newsletter, athletic and general school activities and calendar information.

  • Be especially aware of your role as an Ambassador of St. Francis Borgia Catholic School.


 

WORK DAY:

 

  1. Arrive no later than 8:15 and leave no earlier than 3:40.

  2. Attend all Faculty, Staff, and other meetings as called by the Principal.

  3. Attend the Archdiocesan Convention.

  4. Attend all meetings and programs as designated by the Principal.

  5. Be present during all scheduled Parent/Teacher Conferences.


 

EVALUATION:  Teachers will be evaluated by the Principal every year, using the schedule for evaluations presented for the current year.  Evaluations will be based on the Job Description, Performance Goals, and other designated expectations.

Compensation:

  • Salaries vary depending on experience, location, and qualifications, typically with benefits such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
