High School Powerlifting Head Coach

Key Responsibilities:

Program Leadership:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive training program aligned with powerlifting standards (squat, bench press, deadlift).
  • Promote physical conditioning, injury prevention, and proper lifting techniques.
  • Foster a positive, disciplined, and inclusive team environment.
  • Promote the values of hard work, sportsmanship, integrity, and academic success.
  • Coaching and Athlete Development:
  • Provide individual and group coaching for strength development and technique improvement.
  • Evaluate athlete performance and create tailored plans for progress and safety.
  • Monitor athlete health, including managing injuries in coordination with trainers or medical staff.
  • Support students in pursuing competitive opportunities (regional/state/national competitions).

Administrative Duties:

  • Organize practices, meets, pre-season parent meetings, and team meetings.
  • Maintain records of workouts, attendance, competition results, and athlete eligibility.
  • Ensure all athletes meet eligibility standards and adhere to school and governing body rules (WHSPA and Powerlifting America).
  • Collaborate with athletic department staff, teachers, and parents to support student-athletes.

Equipment & Safety:

  • Maintain, inspect, and ensure proper use of weight room equipment.
  • Enforce safety protocols at all times during training and competitions.
  • Ensure facility is clean, organized, and accessible.

Working Conditions:

  • Evening and weekend work required during training and competition seasons.
  • Must be able to lift heavy equipment and demonstrate proper lifting form.
  • Indoor gym/weight room environment with seasonal travel for competitions.
  • Travel Required for State and National Competitions

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience coaching or competing in powerlifting or strength sports.
  • Knowledge of proper lifting techniques and training protocols.
  • CPR/First Aid and AED certification (or ability to obtain before season start).
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience coaching high school athletes or youth strength training.
    Familiarity with high school powerlifting governance rules (WHSPA and Powerlifting America).
