POSITION DESCRIPTION
The High School Instrumental/Band Teacher will be motivated and has a desire to make a positive impact on high school students while keeping a focus on academic success and help students achieve their fullest potential. The High School Instrumental/Band Teacher will engage positively and professionally with the high school team to create a positive culture and ensure student success.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work performed in this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties and/or skills required; other duties may be assigned.
- Ability to build and grow an instrumental music program at the high school level, with the possibility of growing to our elementary schools
- Teach music classes both in group settings and in one-on-one settings based; possibility of an intro to music class
- Use recruiting tools, set up instrument testing events, recruitment nights, and other programs to entice students to join the band/orchestra program
- Hold productive rehearsals that stretch students musically, but allow them to succeed and grow in their musical skills
- This may require on-site activities after school hours
- Prepare lesson plans, curriculum and benchmarking for all students, report on the progress of students against those benchmarks via progress reports and report cards
- Maintain quality relationships with school administrators and notify the office if students are not attending
- Coordinate concerts, solo & ensemble activities, and other events and performances to engage with students and parents
- Work with retail store and education representatives to make sure students have the instrument and supplies necessary to be successful in class
- Teach summer lessons and continuing education activity to students that wish to continue over the summer
- Hold the primary responsibility for the social, emotional, and academic development of their students while acknowledging their individual needs and development
- Ensure that all students receive a high-quality educational experience resulting in high student achievement
- Demonstrate a clear commitment to adult and adolescent development and learning, and collaboration with a growth mindset in his/her professional practice.
- Work cooperatively and interact positively with students, parents, staff and community. Oversee classroom discipline and escalate issues to appropriate personnel, as applicable.
- High presence and availability to all students, faculty and parents.
- Participate in and attend all faculty meetings and professional development sessions
- Maintain open and consistent communication about student progress, concerts, and achievement with students, families, and the school community.
- Provide leadership in ensuring a positive school culture for adults and students.
- Proactively and effectively communicate with all school personnel, families, and colleagues in a timely manner
- Participate in the school-wide teacher coaching program; receiving feedback and actively working to continuously improve teaching practice and overall performance
