Maintenance Technician

Maintenance Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and monitor buildings and equipment to assure all are in proper state of repair so as to provide continuous effective operations.  
  • Ensure that all inspections required for the school (ie. fire, elevator, boiler) are scheduled and completed within required licenses.
  • Order and replace filters routinely in all HVAC systems and clean A/C coils in church and other facilities.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, plumbing, roofing, building hardware and temperature issues reported by parish, school and rental units.
  • Maintain all parish facilities such as painting, installation of new equipment, removal/disposal of broken outdated equipment, replacement of ceiling tiles, lights, etc.
  • Repair parish and school equipment (ie. vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers) as needed.
  • Research and work with contractors on maintenance projects approved by the Finance Council.

Custodial Responsibilities:

  • Check parish grounds to ensure they are free of vandalism, hazards and debris.
  • Move or set-up chairs and tables for parish events and large school events as needed or requested.
  • Clean the parish office and church when cleaning service is not available.
  • Installation of new bulletin boards, banners and other items requiring permanent mounting to the building.

Grounds Responsibilities:

  • Meet and accompany all inspectors on any city, state or insurance inspections.
  • Monthly emergency lighting and exit signage inspections and repaired as needed.
  • Ensure the upkeep of the parish grounds by cutting grass, trimming, weed treatment and mulching of the grounds.
  • Work with the snow removal company to ensure grounds are cleared timely when snowing. 
  • Maintain equipment used to upkeep the parish grounds for lawn care and snow removal. 

Qualifications

Qualifications include:

  • Five or more years of experience in the custodial or building maintenance field preferred.
  • Must have the knowledge and experience required in building operations, maintenance, cleaning and repair of, but not limited to, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, machinery and basic carpentry.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs so as to receive and respond to email maintenance requests in a timely manner preferred.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and public relations skills as well as professional etiquette so that parish maintenance issues and identified and explained to appropriate parties. 
  • Must have fulfilled all the SAFE (Safeguarding all of God's Family) requirements.
  • The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, lift, squat, bend, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday. 
  • Requires approval of the catholic Mutual Group Physical and Physical Capacity Evaluation.
  • A self-starter with ability to work independently.
