Mathematics Teacher- 6th-8th Grade

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Instruction:

    • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with the grade-level standards.

    • Teach a range of mathematical concepts, including 6th-8th grade mathematics and high school algebra and geometry.

    • Adapt instruction to meet the varying learning styles and abilities of students including our accelerated math programming beginning in grade 4.

    • Use a variety of teaching methods, including hands-on activities, interactive lessons, and technology integration.

    • Promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and mathematical reasoning among students.

    • Provide once a week on-site tutoring support before or after school.

    • Provide a 4 week math bootcamp for students during the summer. Schedule and dates to be mutually agreed upon with school. 

  2. Assessment and Feedback:

    • Create and administer quizzes, tests, and assignments to evaluate student understanding.

    • Provide timely and constructive feedback on student performance.

    • Maintain detailed records of student progress and grades.

    • Use assessment data to inform instruction and make adjustments to teaching strategies.

    • Provide placement testing for new students and returning students. 

  3. Classroom Management:

    • Maintain a positive, respectful classroom environment conducive to learning.

    • Manage student behavior and foster a culture of responsibility, respect, and cooperation.

    • Establish clear classroom rules and expectations.

    • Address any discipline issues promptly and appropriately.

  4. Collaboration and Communication:

    • Collaborate with other teachers, administrators, and staff to support interdisciplinary learning and school-wide initiatives.

    • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, achievements, and areas of concern.

    • Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events.

  5. Professional Development:

    • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in math education, teaching strategies, and technology.

    • Attend workshops, seminars, or conferences to improve teaching skills and knowledge.

    • Reflect on personal teaching practices and seek feedback to continuously improve. 

Desirable Skills:

  • Familiarity with modern educational technology and digital resources.

  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs.

  • Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for teaching.

Work Environment:

  • Full-time, in-person position, typically within a middle school setting.

  • May involve extracurricular duties such as math clubs or tutoring sessions.

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related field.

  • Teaching certification for middle school math (requirements vary by location).

  • Strong knowledge of middle school math concepts and curriculum.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Experience in teaching or tutoring middle school students is preferred.
