Middle School Ministry

Duties & Responsibilities

Edge Ministry

  • Recruit and provide on-going training and support for a volunteer core team, including observation, coaching, and evaluations.
  • Plan and execute Edge sessions in collaboration with various Core Teams & teen leaders.
  • Call, form, and equip teen disciples through dynamic and engaging middle school ministries, including Edge sessions, small groups, teen Masses, Exalts, retreats, summer trips, leadership, and other opportunities for teens to encounter Christ through Scripture and the Sacraments.
  • In line with the vision of the New Evangelization, reach out and develop authentic and intentional relationships with area youth.
  • Recruit, empower, form, and equip teens to be peer leaders in parish student ministry.
  • Collaborate with the other members of the Formation & Discipleship Team to create a vision and strategy for the ministry and implement the developed strategy.
  • Work closely with the high school youth minister to create a cohesive and joined vision to minister to the youth, core team and parents of the parish. 
  • Clearly communicate with families regarding program updates and upcoming events.
  • Market middle school ministries to parish, and local communities.
  • Plan and run middle school retreats (grades 6-8).

 

Administration

  • Adjust and negotiate program components (space, time, materials, human and physical resources) as needed.
  • Provide materials and information to keep the parish website, social media, and communications up to date.
  • Ensure compliance with the Archdiocesan Safe Environment protocol for core team members and volunteers
  • Collaborate with the formation team for larger parish events.
  • Keep informed on teen culture, specifically the needs, interests, attitudes, and beliefs of youth to assist in making informed decisions in the areas of these ministries.
  • Maintain necessary office records. Manage annual budgets according to parish guidelines.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings.
  • Evaluate ministries and review your strategy with the Formation Team and Parish Director
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Help with the Fall Formation Fundraiser

 

Other

  • Organize, promote, and facilitate summer trips, including camp and mission trip for middle school students.
  • Articulate vision and directives of summer trips and fundraisers to families and the parish at large.
  • Plan and run fundraising events to support teens going on summer trips as necessary.
  • Produce creative, dynamic promotional materials, including flyers, occasional bulletin articles and social media posts.
  • Act as the primary administrator for parish social media accounts, producing regular, dynamic posts to promote the Catholic faith, the parish, and parish activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

ADA Physical Requirements

  • The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods; use hands; reach with hands and arms.
  • Close vision required for paperwork and computer.
  • Able to utilize computer keyboard, monitor, and telephone.
  • This role functions in an office environment and uses standard office equipment.
  • Ability to lift 5 pounds.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

 

K: Knowledge

  • Two-year technical degree and/or two years’ experience at a parish, as a missionary, or internship at an organization that works with youth.
  • Experience leading small groups
  • Knowledge of the Catholic faith, including familiarity with scriptures and church teaching
  • Working knowledge of MS Office products and various social media platforms.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license for the State of Wisconsin.

S: Skills

  • Professional working attitude and collaborative approach.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.

A: Abilities

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work a varying schedule which may include days, evenings and weekends, averaging 15-20 hours per week.
  • Ability to build meaningful relationships with, minister to, and teach a diverse array of middle school and high school students along with their parents.
