Physical Education Teacher

 

Job Summary

Saint Sebastian Catholic School is seeking a collaborative and self-directed individual for the position of Physical Education Teacher for the 2026–27 school year. The Physical Education Teacher educates students in grades 4K through 8th by promoting physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy habits in alignment with Catholic values. The Physical Education Teacher supports the development of the whole child through engaging instruction, positive relationships, and collaboration within the Saint Sebastian Catholic School community. An ideal candidate brings energy and enthusiasm and partners with staff and families to support all students.

Duties and Responsibilities

Community & Classroom Environment

  • Create a safe, inclusive, and faith-filled physical education environment

  • Organize and manage physical spaces to support safety and learning

  • Establish and maintain routines, rules, and procedures consistent with school policies

  • Manage student behavior guided by Gospel values and respect for self and others

  • Communicate high expectations for effort, teamwork, sportsmanship, and growth

 

Family Partnerships

  • Communicate clearly with families regarding student progress and expectations

  • Partner with families to support student wellness and healthy habits

 

Professional Life as an Educator

  • Support the mission and core values of Saint Sebastian Catholic School

  • Serve as a role model of Gospel values for students and families

  • Demonstrate professionalism aligned with the school’s mission and Code of Ethics

  • Reflect on teaching practice and pursue ongoing professional and spiritual growth

  • Collaborate with colleagues to support student learning and school-wide initiatives

  • Participate in school committees, events, and activities as appropriate

 

Planning & Instructional Effectiveness

  • Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate physical education units and lessons aligned with curriculum expectations

  • Design engaging lessons and activities that promote physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and lifelong wellness

  • Provide clear instructions and model skills effectively for students

  • Collaborate with appropriate personnel regarding students needing additional support

  • Complete all required documentation related to instruction and assessment in a timely manner

  • Supervise students during all assigned instructional and school-related activities

 

Assessment

  • Use formal and informal assessments to monitor student progress and inform instruction

  • Clearly communicate expectations and assessment criteria to students

  • Provide opportunities for student reflection and goal setting related to physical fitness and personal growth

 

Other Duties

  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, professional development, and faith formation opportunities

  • Attend and support school events outside the regular school day (e.g., Fall Parent Evening, Christmas Concert, January Open House)

  • Take initiative aligned with the mission and vision of the parish and school

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications

Knowledge & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Physical Education, Education, or a related field

  • Current Wisconsin teaching license (or ability to meet requirements for a plan of study toward licensure)

  • Knowledge of age-appropriate physical education standards and best practices

  • Working knowledge of Google Classroom, Gmail, Google Calendar

  • Practicing Catholic preferred, with a commitment to Catholic education

  • Satisfactory Background Check and completion of Safeguarding God’s Children

  • Strong classroom and behavior management skills rooted in positive and respectful practices

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Effective organization and time-management skills

  • Ability to motivate and engage students across a wide developmental range

Abilities

  • Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with students, staff, and families

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Models Catholic spirituality, values, and behaviors
