Position Summary:
The Spanish teacher will implement an engaging and developmentally appropriate language program with the following structure:
- Grades 4–6: Three classes per week
- Grades 7–8: Four classes per week
This program is designed with two core objectives in mind:
- Cultural Empathy and Understanding: Help students gain awareness of and appreciation for Spanish-speaking cultures and people.
- Academic Preparation: Equip students with the skills and knowledge to place into Spanish 2 upon entering high school.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement a Spanish curriculum aligned with ACTFL standards and Christ King’s Catholic values.
- Create a classroom environment that supports risk-taking, respect, and curiosity about other cultures.
- Collaborate with faculty and administration to integrate cultural and language learning across disciplines and school activities.
- Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners and scaffold language acquisition at all grade levels.
- Use a variety of formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and guide instruction.
- Maintain regular communication with families and provide updates on student learning and program development.
