Ministry
The Director of Faith Formation ensures the structures are in place for the spiritual growth of all St. Jude the Apostle community members. The Director of Faith Formation reports to the pastor and collaborates with other members of St. Jude’s leadership team including church and school.
Essential Responsibilities
- Sacraments of Initiation:
- Baptism- The Director works with families to schedule their baptism class and date of baptism.
- 1st Holy Communion- The Director oversees the 1st Holy Communion preparation by partnering with parents, St. Jude School teachers and religious education catechists.
- Confirmation- The Director oversees Confirmation preparation by partnering with parents and religious education catechists.
- O.C.I.A- The Director facilitates the O.C.I.A program by inviting catechumens and candidates and walking with them in cohorts to their eventual entrance into the Church.
- Faith Formation
- Commission- The Director works closely with the faith formation commission, helping it to reach its goals.
- Religious Education- The Director works closely with volunteer catechists and parents to form children in the faith (5k – 10th grade).
- Child- The Director coordinates Children’s Liturgy of the Word one Sunday per month.
- Youth- The Director coordinates youth ministry mission trips in summer and other faith formation opportunities.
- Adult- The Director coordinates adult faith formation including a twice-yearly speaker series and ongoing small groups.
- Outreach
- The Director works closely with Human Concerns commission to ensure the spiritual needs of the marginalized, elderly and homebound are met.
Skills and Abilities
- Communicates efficiently and effectively inter-personally and through phone-calls, emails and group presentations.
- Creates new ways to communicate the truths of the faith to all community members.
- Recruits and empowers volunteers through training and encouragement to grow in their baptismal call.
- Knows and understands all that the Catholic Church teaches and desires to share it with others through personal witness.
- Utilizes sound formational resources for instruction and dissemination to the community.
- Collaborates well in an office setting.
- Maintains an organized workspace.
- Contributes to a welcoming atmosphere in the parish office.
- Can work nights and weekends.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Archdiocesan norms in regard to Religious Education, Sacramental Preparation, and Christian Initiation.
- Familiarity with liturgical and canon law.
- Degree in Theology, Pastoral Ministry or Religious Studies (or equivalency experience).
- Word processing, email, online calendaring, PowerPoint and basic audio/visual technology.
- Valid Driver’s License and Safe Environment trained.
