The Parish & School Financial Consultant is part of the dynamic Finance and Administration staff of the archdiocese. The Parish and School Financial Consultant provide consultative services focused on the financial operations of the parishes and schools of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. 

Our consultants provide assistance and guidance as described in the Parish Financial Management Manual. This includes support with financial software, budgeting, accounting, forecasting, capital planning, financial analysis and other financial matters.  The consultant is available to meet on-site with parish personnel, as well as can provide remote support.

Responsibilities:

  • Financial support for parishes and schools to include payroll, tax compliance, and miscellaneous questions that may arise
  • Assist with the preparation of the annual priest compensation information
  • Schedule and perform on-site parish reviews
  • Prepare summary of findings from parish reviews and offer improvements in reporting and controls
  • Assist the Director of Parish Finance with review of annual parish financial statements
  • Assist the Director of Parish Finance in planning and development of programs and training curriculum relating to parish finances
  • Review and analyze the annual budgets submitted by parishes and schools
  • Assist with following up with parishes and schools on any required budget actions directed by the Archbishop or Leadership in the central office
  • Assist with other offices and participate in recurring and special projects

We are looking for someone with these skills:

  • Effective coaching skills to assist our parish leaders, employees, and volunteers through financial and operational matters
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, strong organization and time management skills
  • Financial analytical skills, knowledge of accounting and audit practices
  • Comfortable presenting to groups with various backgrounds
  • Proficient using Microsoft products-Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or Accounting is required. An MBA or CPA certificate is desirable
  • 1-5 years of accounting experience
  • Audit experience is desirable, but not required
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks is desirable
  • Knowledge of working or volunteering in a parish and understanding of the Catholic Church and its teachings is desirable

Benefits and Compensation:

The position is a full-time (40 hours a week), salaried position working in-person at the Archdiocese of Milwaukee Pastoral Center. The Archdiocese of Milwaukee provides a full scope of employment benefits, including medical, dental, vision, flextime, Catholic school tuition assistance for children of employees, 403b, and a pension program. Some travel to parishes throughout the archdiocese is required. Mileage reimbursement is available.
