Pulpit Announcement:

This December, parishes in the archdiocese have been asked to host a special collection for La Sagrada Familia parish, our archdiocesan sister parish located in the Dominican Republic.  Since 1981, 15 priests from our archdiocese have ministered there and together with the parishioners have helped to build a parish community of 30,000 people.  Over the years, a relationship based on true solidarity between the people of this archdiocese and the people in La Sagrada Familia has developed. Please note the story on what a sister parish relationship is all about in the Sunday Bulletin.

Bulletin Text (full version):

Our “parish twinning” relationship with the parish of La Sagrada was born of a beautiful impulse: to help others who are struggling economically, a desire to help those who are in need.

But our long relationship as a Sister parish has given us the opportunity to build real relationships with people who are of another land and culture.  It has given us opportunities to develop true friendships with the people of this parish in the Dominican Republic.  Some of us have had the opportunity to visit this parish, some of us have gotten to know more about the people through our newsletters and visits from the pastor, Fr. Marti.

A missionary once said, “What we see depends on where we stand.”  When we stand with the people of La Sagrada Familia, we can see the world with new eyes. We can learn from their example of struggle and faith and realize that we are part of the same human family.

We thank you for your support of the people La Sagrada Familia through the special collection. It is part of our faith commitment to build bridges of greater solidarity and justice with the people of the world.
