AHG Catholic Faith Awards

The Archdiocese of Milwaukee has endorsed the Catholic Faith Awards (CFAs) for American Heritage Girls in the archdiocese.

The AHG Catholic Faith Awards were created for Catholic American Heritage Girls to learn more about their faith and develop a stronger relationship with Christ in a fun and hands-on manner. There is a Catholic Faith Award for each AHG Program Levels. Each Award is divided into Segments: one Segment for each year of the Program Level. This helps integrate the faith throughout a girl's AHG experience.

For more information about CFAs, see the AHG Overview of the Catholic Faith Awards.

Instructions & Guidelines

Where can I purchase Catholic Faith Award workbooks, patches and medals?

Workbooks should be purchased directly from the AHG Store.  No separate leader guide is required.  All instructions for the girls, parents or mentors are contained in the particular workbook.

Patches and Medals are ordered from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee Office of Catechesis.  See how to order below.  Order Form.

How do I order patches or medals from the Archdiocese?

1. Download and print the Order Form for AHG Catholic Faith Awards.  Complete the order form.

2. Enclose a check payable to “Archdiocese of Milwaukee.”

3. For medals, enclose a signed Completion Page from the workbook for each medal.

4. Mail the order form along with payment and any completion pages to:

Archdiocese of Milwaukee
Office of Catechesis
Milwaukee, WI  53207-0912

5. Allow 3 weeks for delivery.

Important considerations:

Please be aware that we cannot accommodate dropping off order forms or picking up orders.  Requests must be received by mail; all orders will be delivered by mail.

Patch segments may be ordered by the parent/mentor before girls have completed the segment, so the patch may be presented when that portion of the award is completed.

The Medal is ordered after all segments are completed, and the Completion Page in the back of the workbook has been signed.  Normally, the Completion Page is carefully removed/cut from the workbook and submitted with the order form. A copy of the signed page may be sent.  However, each girl must have their own workbook.  Copying workbooks for multiple use is prohibited.

The Woman of Integrity Award consists of 2 medals.  The first, Moral Compass, is earned after two segments, the second, Quiver of Arrows, when all four segments are complete.

Are the patches a required part of the Catholic Faith Awards?

Patches are optional.  It is up to the girl/parent/leader whether they would like to order the patches.  Each CFA patch is actually a combination of 2, 3 or 4 patch segments.  A Girl can earn a patch segment at the completion of each segment of the workbook, normally one per year.  The growing patch on the uniform shows progress toward the Catholic Faith Award.

What are the age-ranges for the Catholic Faith Awards?

Deus et Familia Mea / God and My Family – Age 6-9, Tenderheart

Deus et Patria Mea / God and My Country – Age 9-12, Explorer

Deus et Civita Mea / God and My Community – Age 12-14, Pioneer

Femina Integritatis / Woman of Integrity – Age 14-18, Patriot

Who should assist Girls who are working toward a Catholic Faith Award?

For the Tenderfoot and Explorer levels, a Parent normally works with the Girl.

The Pioneer and Patriot-level CFAs are designed for a group setting, guided or supported by an adult Mentor.  If a group is not available, discuss with the Troop Shepherd how an individual Pioneer or Patriot may arrange to pursue the award.

A Mentor must fulfill all safe environment requirements of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee before working with girls on the Catholic Faith Awards.  This includes completion of the Safe Environment Education session provided by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, a criminal background check, and signing the Code of Ethical Standards.

AHG Faith Award Program Training is available in the AHGequip training app.

What signatures are required on the CFA Completion Page before an Award medal can be ordered?

For the Tenderheart and Explorer awards (God and My Family, God and My Country),  the Completion Page requires the signatures of the Girl herself, a Parent, her Troop Shepherd, and the Pastor.

For the Pioneer and Patriot levels (God and Community, Woman of Integrity), the Completion Page requires the signatures of the Girl herself, a Parent, the Mentor who worked with a group of Girls, the Troop Shepherd, and the Pastor.

In the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, the “Pastor” may be the Pastor or Parish Director of the Troop’s Parish, or of the Family’s Parish.  The pastor or parish director may designate someone else to review and sign workbooks.  If necessary, the workbook may be reviewed and signed by another priest, a DRE, Catholic school principal, or deacon identified by the Troop Shepherd.

May American Heritage Girls earn the Religious Recognitions provided by NCCGSCF (e.g., I Live my Faith, Marian Medal, or Missio)?

Beginning in 2020, American Heritage Girls are encouraged to pursue the AHG Catholic Faith Awards.

But if a Girl has already begun work toward one of the NCCGSCF Catholic recognitions, she may complete the requirements and earn that medal.
