Catholics and Lutherans Growing Together in Faith
On October 31, 2016 Pope Francis, LWF President Bishop Dr Munib A. Younan and General Secretary Rev. Dr Martin Junge led an Ecumenical Commemoration of the Reformation in anticipation of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017. It highlighted the solid ecumenical developments between Catholics and Lutherans and the joint gifts received through dialogue.
During this year leading up to October 31, 2017, the Vatican and Lutheran World Federation, National Church offices, and dioceses and synods throughout the world will provide opportunities for Lutherans and Catholics together to affirm the gifts of the Reformation, to seek forgiveness from one another and to commit to common witness.
