Director of Liturgical Music

The Director of Liturgical Music is a professional member of the Pastoral Staff assisting the Pastor and Liturgical Committee in providing inspirational liturgical celebrations for the parish and school. The music ministry at St. Agnes is known for its dedication and exaltation in leading the congregation with a strong history of parish participation.

Job Description:

1.         Providing music for all liturgical celebrations on weekends, holy days, school liturgies, sacramental celebrations and other special occasions as directed by the Pastor.

2.         Choosing meaningful music for each service and preparing orders of worship for parish celebrations and obtaining appropriate copyright permissions.

3.         Serving as the primary musician for both piano and organ.

4.         Recruiting, training and directing the dedicated and dynamic parish choir, cantors and handbell choir.

5.         Developing an annual budget for liturgical music and any guest musicians who might participate in special liturgies.

7.         Active participation with parish staff and Liturgical Committee.

6.         Responsible for music at weddings and funerals only if requested by the families who will provide additional compensation.

Qualifications

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing and able to partake fully in the sacramental life of the Church.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Music.
  • Proficient in piano, organ and choral direction.
  • Knowledge of various musical styles (traditional, contemporary, folk, praise and worship) as they apply to Catholic worship
  • Motivated, team oriented and flexible with organizational skills, well-developed personal and relationship skills and strong communication abilities.
  • Computer competency in Microsoft and Publisher, and able to use online music programs.

Working Environment

  • Must understand the sensitive and public profile nature of the work of the church. Should adhere to the highest standards of good practices and confidentiality. Must be proactive in support of the church's mission statement, goals, policies and programs. Flexibility in work schedule and work styles is expected given the nature of a family centric parish.

ADA Physical Requirements:

  • The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods; use hands; reach with hands and arms.
  • Close vision required for paperwork and computer.
  • Able to utilize computer keyboard, monitor, and telephone.
  • This role partially functions in an office environment and uses standard office equipment.
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds.

This is a full time, salaried and professional position averaging 30 hours per week including evening and weekend work. Annual salary is commiserated with responsibilities, education and experience.
