St. Matthias Parish School is a Catholic K4 - 8th grade school seeking a collaborative, innovative music teacher to join our faculty for the 2024 - 2025 academic year. This is a full-time position. The ideal qualified candidate will teach K4 - 8th grade general music (80%) and direct the school’s youth choir (20%). The ideal candidate will deliver well-rounded musical instruction and produce several student concerts throughout the school year. In addition, the teacher will integrate church music to help foster a strong connection between our school and parish. A bachelor’s degree is required. Wisconsin DPI certification is preferred.
Church-related responsibilities
Collaborate with liturgical director, Sam Skogstad, on school Mass planning and execution
Prepare rehearsal materials/ music for choir, run weekly rehearsals, and direct ensemble at Mass and other events
Plan performance schedule
Handle Youth Choir parent communications
Student Cantor support- auditioning student cantors, teaching music, scheduling small group or 1-on-1 rehearsals
Point person for off-campus performance opportunities for choir
Co-direct junior handbell ensemble with liturgist (prior experience with handbells not necessary)
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
Excellent skills in general music education
Ability to read sheet music
Strong classroom management
Ability to create lesson plans
Ability to creatively problem-solve
Ability to demonstrate a high level of professional, ethical, and confidential behavior
Strong communication skills
Ability to plan, execute concert logistics, and direct student concerts
Wisconsin Teaching License preferred (Persons with a background in education or related fields are encouraged to apply)
Opportunity to be involved in fine arts events and programs (i.e. school musicals)
Piano and/or guitar proficiency (a plus)
Experience with liturgical music (a plus)
