Holy Name of Jesus Parish, a growing parish in Wausau with a Classical School slated to open 2024-2025, seeks a part-time Director of Sacred Music for its growing music program. The ideal candidate is a practicing Catholic with a strong understanding of Church teachings on liturgy and music with a heart to discern the Holy Spirit. Additionally, the candidate will be an accomplished musician, a team player with a flexible schedule and possess excellent organization skills. Start date is June 1, 2024. Main Responsibilities:
- Select appropriate sacred music for all parish liturgies, including Sunday liturgies, liturgical feasts, Holy Days of Obligation, and additional services as needed.
- Maximize the potential of the musical gifts of parishioners, encourage growth of the sacred music program.
- Schedule accompanists, instrumentalists, cantors, and choirs and communicate music selections in a timely manner.
- First right of refusal for funerals and weddings.
- Ensure that the sacred music program reflects Church teaching
Requirements:
- Strong skills as a pianist, organist, music director and/or vocalist
- Possess a strong knowledge of Catholic liturgy, music, and Church teaching
- Candidates with choral and/or music education experience preferred
- All candidates must pass a criminal background check and become Safe Environment certified.
Salary commensurate with experience and abilities, to be determined with the pastor. Stipends for weddings and funerals in addition to salary.
