Parish Planning & Councils

Archdiocesan partnership with parishes regarding strategic planning, parish council training and staff development.

The Office for Planning and Councils assists and supports pastors, parish directors, staffs, pastoral and finance councils, commissions and committees in their roles to carry out the mission of Christ to the world.  Areas of support include, but are not limited to, consultation, data collection and analysis, workshops, training, manuals, videos/powerpoints, and newsletters.  The goal of the Office is "to make parishes better."

Archdiocesan Pastoral Council

Comprised of representatives from throughout the ten counties of the archdiocese, the APC meets regularly with the Archbishop to consult on matters related to pastoral activity and the mission of the church.  In the fall and spring, deanery representatives gather two representatives from each pastoral council to discuss issues and share best practices at Deanery Assemblies.

Pastoral Councils, Finance Councils, Trustees, Commissions/Committees

Training, formation and resources are provided for those who serve in parish leadership.  The organization in which they serve is guided by Norms for Pastoral Councils and Norms for Finance Councils which have been approved by the Archbishop.

Demographic and Parish Data Reports

Parishes get better by known who they are and whom they serve.  The Office provides and supports demographic information through MissionInsite and offers annual parish summary reports, as well as Pastoral Activity Reports.  For example, check out the latest ExecutiveInsite report on the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.  This report will be updated annually.

Archdiocesan Planning Commission

The Archdiocesan Planning Commission assists the Archbishop with strategic planning initiatives and their implementation.

Pastoral Planning

Resources and consultation for parishes and multi-parish communities to conduct Leadership Summits for short-term planning or Strategic Planning for  5 - 7 year efforts.

Archdiocesan Building Commission

The Commission assists the Archbishop with strategic planning initiatives and their implementation.  The status on the implementation of the 2020 Plan can be viewed.

Mark your calendars.  The Parish Councils Congress is a Saturday event for Pastoral and Finance Council Chairs, two trustees and, optionally, for pastors/parish directors.  The day will include keynote speakers and specialized breakout sessions for each officer to assist participants to become more effective leaders in their parish or multi-parish community.  The Congress will conclude with consultation and voting on norms, training for councils and commission members, and information on council retreats.  A grab-and-go or dine-in lunch will be provided.   Check out the day's schedule

Consultation Form. For those who completed the consultation form THANK YOU.  As promised in Parish Leader Update, you can review the possible changes and suggestions, including training and retreats.  If you will be attending the Congress, you will want to review the survey form presentations listed below in advance of February 2.

Note:  Parishes will need one person to bring a smart phone or other electronc device which is fully charged (and someone else have a backup device) for the consultation on norms, training, retreats and future Congresses at the end of the morning.

Register Now.  The Archdiocese would like all parishes represented at this Congress and strongly urges each parish or multi-parish community to have representatives at the Parish Councils Congress.  If the Pastoral Council or Finance Council chair cannot attend, the vice chair or another council member should be there.  For a meal count, registration deadline is Friday, January 25, 2019.

NOTE:  Although there is no cost because the Archdiocese is funding the Congress, registration is required.  Morning refreshments and a grab-and-go or dine-in lunch will be provided.

Multi-Parish Institute

The Multi-Parish Ministry Institute is designed for parishes looking for ways to work more closely together.

NEW - Session Added! Number of Registrants Limited.  It's not too early to register now for the third and fourth set of sessions.  Each session is held at the Archbishop Cousins Center.  Check out the overview of the Institute.

Dates for Tuesday during the day, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with lunch, are  February 12, March 26 and May 14, 2019.

Dates for Thursday evening, 4:00 - 8:30 p.m., with supper, are February 7, March 28 and May 16, 2019.
