We offer information about how parishes and groups in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee are connected to our brothers and sisters in Mexico.
On this page we are highlighting connections between the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and our sisters and brothers in Mexico.
Do you have a mission connection in Mexico, Latin America, or anywhere else? Tell us about it! We want to hear your stories and reflections and see your mission photos! Send us an email to tell us about your mission!
Three parishes in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee currently have a twinning (sister) relationship with parishes or organizations in Mexico. See below for a list of the parishes. If you are interested in visiting the parish's website on their relationship (where available), please click on the name of the twinning project, and you will be taken to the parish webpage.
The missions that connect with our Archdiocese work in a number of areas throughout Mexico on a wide variety of projects. Here, we highlight a few of these. (For more information about other missions, scroll down to the Mission Group Visits section of the page and click on the mission group name, where applicable)
"The Community of Saint Paul in Mexico is responsible for the San José Community Center for Child Development." "In 1999, the Claretians established a mission in Ciudad Juárez, a rough Mexican border city of 1.5 million people across the river from El Paso, Texas." In Juárez, they work to "respond to the current crisis," which means responding to a variety of spiritual, physical, and emotional needs. "In 2003, the Franciscan Sisters accepted a call to serve San Rafael Parish, which is located in a very poor, rural area in the Diocese of Linares in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. They founded the Franciscan Missionary Center and created programs that train lay people to be religious leaders who serve the pastoral and spiritual needs of the people." Since 1989, Ss Peter and Paul Parish in Milwaukee has had a twinning relationship with San Ildefonso in Tenejapa, Chiapas, Mexico. Here, Dr. Julie Mickelson tells the story of one very special visit to the parish:
"I knew my fourth visit to our sister parish in Chiapas was going to be special from the moment we got on the freeway from the airport on our way to Tenejapa. Just like the Olympic torch is run to the site of the Olympic Games, the Mexican youth literally run a torch from the Basilica in Mexico City to their home communities. We passed multiple torch runners and trucks filled with young people in matching tshirts, faces painted. Too bad we were going too fast to get a good picture in the dark. It was during an antorcha run that Our Lady of Guadalupe’s image first appeared to the young people of Tenejapa..."

The Missionary Cooperation Plan (MCP) is a program by which missionaries from around the world are invited to speak at parishes in our archdiocese. During these presentations they share information about their work and ministry and tell stories from the mission.
This year, many of the visiting groups are from or have a mission that connects with Mexico. See below for a list of the groups and the parishes they will visit. As we receive information about the dates of their visits, we will add that information to the page, in case you are interested in visiting the parish to hear more about the mission.
If you have questions about an individual group, please contact us. To find out more about the MCP process, visit the Missionary Cooperation Plan page.
