We ask all to pray for the people of the Archdiocesan sister parish, La Sagrada Familia, in the Dominican Republic and for all who have been affected by Hurricane Sandy.
On Monday, October 29, our office received the following message from Father Marti Colom, one of the Pastors of the Parish:
"“Hurricane Sandy was quite devastating in the parish. We are still in the process of evaluating the damages. It is still impossible to get to six communities of the parish, since the river has increased and we can’t cross it (Proyecto 2C, Los Negros, Barrera, the Galindos, Ranchería...)…..There has been a lot of damage also in the fields, and people will hurt because of that. Right now we are collecting mattresses, clothes, food and mosquito nets. At some point we will begin to think about rebuilding some houses. So far, we are trying to work in coordination with the local authorities and with the Diocese here.”
Father Marti also sent the following images, from which you can see the level of devastation in the parish. These images are below.
We will continue to update this site when we receive more information.
Again, we ask that you join us in praying for all people who have been affected by Hurricane Sandy.
