Position Title: Coordinator of Elementary Faith Formation 

Supervisor’s Title:  Pastor                                                            

Job Summary:

Provides leadership and administration in the design and implementation of faith formation programs for elementary students. Manages sacrament preparation and works with pastor to coordinate sacramental liturgies.

 Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge:

  1. Eligible for Advanced Religious Education Certification with the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
  2. Active Catholic able to participate in the sacramental life of the Church
  3. BA in Theology/Religious Education or an educational field and/or a certificate in ministry or theology from a Catholic institution of higher learning required for a director; preferred for a coordinator.
  4. Two years or more experience in a parish or Catholic school setting as a teacher/administrator/catechist required.
  5. Education or experience in training, delegation, empowering and supervision preferred.
  6. Working knowledge in MS Office products and Google applications.
  7. Valid driver’s license for the State of Wisconsin is preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities


Administrative

  • Research the religious education needs and preferences of parishioners and design and implement catechetical programs to meet those needs.
  • Collaborates with the pastor, other staff members, colleagues from other parishes, and the ecumenical community to develop a coordinated approach toward religious education.
  • Recruit screen and train catechists and aides.
  • Ensure catechists are certified according to the Archdiocese of Milwaukee guidelines/Safe Environment.
  • Create and maintain a written catechist and aide schedule with backups.
  • Prepare and monitor the annual elementary faith formation budget.
  • Order and maintain inventory of necessary materials and supplies.
  • Attend staff meetings and other meetings at the request of the Pastor.
  • Acts as a resource for Parish leadership.
  • Ensure accurate records are kept of catechists and their families.
  • Network with community agencies that serve the needs of our youth.
  • Formally evaluate the catechetical programs.

Faith Formation

  • Collaborates with the Pastor/Priest to manifest the vision for catechetical and sacramental life of the parish.
  • Selects appropriate catechetical materials based on Archdiocesan guidelines.
  • Fosters parishioner participation in faith formation, evangelization, and stewardship.
  • Provides opportunities for parents to exercise their role as primary catechists by taking an active part in the religious education of their children.
  • Responsible for the registration process of program participants and maintains accurate records on a timely basis (attendance, sacraments, tuition etc).
  • Provides continued support for new and existing catechists by being present before, during, and after classes, and inform them of literature and workshops.

Programs for Preschool and Elementary

  • Coordinates faith formation program for children in preschool through 8th grade.
  • Oversee the preparation and celebration of the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist.
  • Collaborate to plan liturgical and sacramental celebrations such as youth Masses.
  • Plan and coordinate special events like retreats, community outreach projects, etc.
  • Assist with recruiting youth as servers.
  • Effectively manage students’ behavior and work with parents.
