JOB SUMMARY:  The Director of Youth and Family Ministry evangelizes the Gospel by developing, implementing and maintaining faith formation initiatives for high school youth. This position is part of the Lifelong Faith Formation Team, responsible for all aspects of overseeing high school youth formation and for their families for the parish. This person will organize, lead, and direct the ministry in high school youth faith formation. This person will collaborate with Faith Formation staff to design and implement a family catechetical model. Must love ministering with a team to provide family centered faith formation.

DIRECTOR OF YOUTH AND FAMILY MINISTRY

It is expected that this individual will work with the Faith Formation Team to provide Lifelong Faith Formation for the people of St. Anthony on the Lake Parish.

The primary focus is as a member of the Youth Ministry Team.

The responsibilities include:

  • Direct Catechetical Formation for High School

    • High School classes of Family Program
      • Recruit and train catechists
      • Develop, evaluate, and update the curriculum and resources
      • Communicate with parents and students regarding High School Catechetical and Confirmation programs, including attendance requirements

     

  • Collaborate with the Family Program Team to direct the Family Programs

    • Create, plan, coordinate and lead the Family Activities and parent meetings as needed
    • Update scripts and ppts as needed for family activity and scrolling
    • Assist with coordination of set-up and clean-up
    • Direct coordinators and volunteers in preparing family activity supplies and materials
    • Assist with on-site coordination and supervision of volunteers
    • Meet with the Design Team as needed

     

  • Direct Confirmation process for High School Youth
    • Wednesday Confirmation Sessions with help of Youth Ministry Team
  • Coordinate and lead Wednesday Confirmation Sessions and make up sessions
  • Facilitate communication and support to Confirmation Group Leaders
  • Recruit and train Group Leaders
    • Work with the Pastor, Liturgist, and Youth Ministry team to plan and execute the Confirmation Celebration
    • Plan and execute annual retreats for all High School Youth, with High School Youth Ministry Team
  • Recruit and develop teams of youth and adults to implement retreats

 

  • Collaborate with Youth Ministry Team to enhance Youth Ministry

    • Coordinate High School Summer mission trips and other service learning opportunities
    • Foster Youth leadership through youth activities
    • Coordinate NCYC opportunity for High School Youth
    • Coordinate High School social opportunities

     

  • Collaborate with other Faith Formation Directors to enhance Family Ministry
    • Plan and execute Summer opportunities
    • Plan and execute Liturgical Catechetical programs
  • Plan and execute Service Learning
    • Evaluate Parish needs for Family Faith Formation, and implement viable ideas
    • Assist in planning and coordinating parish-wide programming
    • Collaborate with Adult and Family Minister on Young Adult Initiatives

       

  • Administrative Responsibilities

    • Direct Interns and Youth Coordinator, if applicable
    • Meet with Pastoral Associate for Lifelong Faith Formation and FF Directors
      • Evaluate FF programs
      • Collaborate in calendar planning and room scheduling
      • Collaborate in long range planning for parish FF needs
    • Write bulletin announcements as needed
    • Communicate with webmaster to update- website as needed
    • Support and work with the Lifelong Faith Formation Committee
      • Attend monthly Lifelong Faith Formation Committee Meetings
      • Contribute to monthly FF report
      • With the FF Staff, provide direction to the LFF Committee in areas of budget, goals, structure and growth challenges for Faith Formation
    • Prepare the FF budget and represent the FF department with Pastoral Associate at Finance Council budget meeting
      • Monitor the youth portion of the FF budget 

     

  • Work with Pastoral Associate for Lifelong Faith Formation to recruit, train and direct FF Staff as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

Director should be a practicing Catholic with knowledge of Catholicism and should

  • Enjoy working with High School Youth and adult volunteers
  • Have effective presentation skills for large groups, adults, families, and youth
  • Work well in a team environment
  • Communicate with staff and parishioners in a pastorally sensitive, confidential manner
  • Ability to work hours required by the position
  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, Religious or Pastoral Studies (Master’s preferred)

TIME REQUIREMENTS

Time spent on this position will include:

  • 40 hours per week
  • 52 weeks per year

SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATION AND SUGGESTED ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Candidate should be willing to participate in workshops, retreats and other continuing educational opportunities such as offerings from Mareda and the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
