Lumen Christi Catholic Formation – Middle School Youth Minister

Lumen Christi Catholic Formation is seeking an enthusiastic Middle School Youth Minister to grow a ministry which students in grades 6–8 have opportunities to encounter God, build that relationship, and have community.

Position Summary

The Middle School Youth Minister is responsible for growing a comprehensive youth ministry program to guide all middle school students in the parish’s geographic bounds through the process of evangelization and catechesis. This position partners with the high school youth minister, together building a collaborative ministry with a precatechumenate model in mind.  
The Middle School Youth Minister participates as a member of the Catholic Formation team, working closely with the Director of Catholic Formation, and assists with other formation ministries discerned by the team. The position reports to the Director of Catholic Formation and operates with latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative. Daily tasks include the planning and implementation of all weekly programs and special events for the Middle School Ministry. Responsibilities include regular communication with parents along with the recruitment and development of volunteer Core Teams for the ministry. The Middle School Youth Minister also assists in sacrament preparation for children and youth seeking sacraments outside of the norms and OCIA adapted for children and teens.  

 

Key Responsibilities:

Middle School Ministry 

  • Build meaningful relationships with youth from both public and private schools.
  • Elevate & grow a comprehensive middle school youth ministry program for students grades 6-8; including Catholic Formation nights, youth group, retreats, bible study, and other innovated mission driven ministries
  • Coordinate summer outreach trips, including promotion, fundraising, volunteer recruitment, and planning support
  • Recruit and actively develop a core team of youth and adults to help plan, prepare, and lead dynamic formation and youth nights for our middle school students
  • Create a comprehensive youth ministry calendar and coordinate with the parish-wide Catholic Formation calendar
  • Schedule and manage facilities, adhering to parish procedures and timelines
  • Communicate clearly and consistently 
  • Ensure full compliance with Safe Environment requirements for all adult volunteers
  • Manage and maintain an approved youth ministry budget

Sacramental Formation and OCIA Adapted for Children and Teens

  • Work with the Director of Catholic Formation implementing and growing OCIA adapted for children and teens 
  • Coordinate sacrament preparation for children and youth seeking sacraments outside of the norms
  • Assist with Confirmation retreats and Liturgy as needed, working closely with the high school youth minister

Parish Life & Teamwork

  • Assist and collaborate with the high school youth minister; mutually supporting a robust vision for Youth Ministry grades 6-12
  • Collaborate with Catholic Formation team to support family & intergenerational ministry
    Serve as a leader during Vacation Bible School (VBS); directed by the Child Ministry Coordinator
  • Collaborate with parish and school staff to support holistic youth formation
  • Support effective use of parish technology, databases, and communication tools
    Work closely with the Catholic Formation General Assistant to maintain necessary paperwork for middle school ministry functions, including promotional materials, permission slips, and volunteer forms
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality in all parish and ministry matters
  • Attend weekly Catholic Formation meetings, monthly all staff meetings, and staff retreats (Advent, & Lent)
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and ministry networks
Education, Training and/or Qualifications
  • Practicing Catholic, in good standing, with strong knowledge and appreciation of the Catholic faith and traditions
  • Able to meet and maintain Safe Environment requirements 
    Understanding of and commitment to the teachings and values of the Roman Catholic
  • Church as found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church and other recognized sources of authentic Catholic Tradition.
  • Must have ability to work well with people, to give clear directions, and to adapt to changing conditions. 
  • Ability to work without immediate supervision
  • Proficiency in computer technology and ability to learn and adopt to new computer systems
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, Religious Studies or Youth Ministry; or similar experience in ministry preferred
Work Environment and Availability

Because this is a ministry of presence and accompaniment, the person in this position is required to maintain a flexible work schedule that will include dependable office hours and multiple evenings per week, weekends, and special occasions.


Compensation

Type: Full-time .92 FTE role with flexible, annualized scheduling
