About Nativity Jesuit Academy:

Nativity Jesuit Academy (NJA) is a K4-8 co-ed Catholic, Jesuit, urban school serving young men and women in Milwaukee, WI. We prepare our students, in partnership with their families, for Christian leadership and service in high school, college, and life.

Position Summary:

The STEM Teacher provides inquiry-based instruction aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards. This role includes teaching science, utilizing technology and the STEM lab, differentiating instruction to meet student needs, and supporting a middle school homeroom. The teacher demonstrates high expectations, strong classroom leadership, rigorous student engagement, and effective collaboration with colleagues and families.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Plan and deliver engaging science and STEM lessons aligned with NGSS and school curriculum.
  • Utilize inquiry-based, project-based, and hands-on instructional practices.
  • Integrate technology and STEM learning experiences into daily instruction.
  • Design learning experiences that encourage creativity, innovation, and critical thinking.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction.
  • Create objective-driven lessons that promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Maintain high academic expectations and accountability for all students.

STEM Integration

  • Utilize the STEM lab to provide authentic, hands-on learning experiences.
  • Incorporate engineering design, technology, and real-world applications into instruction.
  • Foster student creativity, collaboration, innovation, and inquiry.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to strengthen and integrate science and STEM instruction across grade levels and subject areas.
  • Support robotics, coding, engineering, makerspace, and design-thinking opportunities as appropriate.
  • Seek opportunities for student participation in STEM competitions, showcases, and community partnerships.

Classroom Culture and Student Support

  • Build a respectful, caring classroom culture where students feel a sense of belonging.
  • Set clear expectations, maintain consistent routines, and support strong student habits.
  • Communicate proactively with families about progress, concerns, and celebrations.
  • Collaborate with student support staff to implement accommodations, interventions, and behavior supports.
  • Serve as a positive role model who reflects Nativity Jesuit Academy’s mission and values.

Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the middle school team, school leadership, and support staff.
  • Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, assessments, and family communication.
  • Prepare students for classroom and schoolwide academic expectations.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and student support meetings as needed.
  • Attend required professional development, spiritual formation, and school events, including but not limited to August Orientation, retreats, Sustaining the Mission, PD days, Back to School Night, Open Houses, conferences, Scholarship Dinner, and Graduation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Position Qualifications: 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Appropriate Wisconsin DPI teaching license, or ability to obtain/transfer licensure
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Commitment to working with students and families in an urban Catholic school setting

 

Preferred:

  • Experience teaching middle school science.
  • Experience with STEM, project-based learning, or inquiry-based instruction.
  • Experience integrating educational technology into instruction.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Experience working in an urban school setting.
